MSI PR200 – Additional BIOS adjustments through secret shortcut
02.February 2009
It is possible to enable additional options in the BIOS of the PR200 notebook produced by MSI (also known as MS-1221 and released by many other OEMs). I have found this hack in the 3.50 BIOS (available here), so I don’t know if this trick works in other versions (but I tend to believe so).
All you have to do is to press Alt + Insert at once while being in BIOS. Three additional adjustements wil appear in the “Advanced” section:
1. Trusted Computing -> TCG/TPM SUPPORT -> NO/YES (Enable/Disable TPM TCG (TPM 1.1/1.2 supp in BIOS)
2. ENE EC BACK DOOR IO DECODE -> Disabled/Enabled
3. Resume By RTC -> Disabled/Enabled (Enable/Disable RTC Power on timer.)
The first setting is used to enable / disable TPM, which was officially removed with an older BIOS update. The third adjustement makes it possible to boot the notebook automatically at a specified time. I don’t know anything about the second setting, but I’m happy about every comment. Let’s hope that this hack won’t get removed with the next BIOS release. Use this trick on your own risk. Have fun!
P.S.: As far as I know the only differences between 1.48 (Vista) and 3.48 (XP) BIOS versions is the default value of AHCI (enabled in the case of Vista) and the possibility to separately enable/disable bluetooth and WLAN with the WiFi/BT-button in 3.48, while in 1.48 WLAN and bluetooth can only be enabled/disabled altogether. This trick also works in version 3.49, 3.50!
